I’ve been looking for a new fragrance for this spring, and I think one of these will definitely be on the list to buy. All three are worthy of anybody’s collection no matter what – so let’s jump right into it.
1. Creed Wild Vetiver
Creed has had a steady hand in releasing new fragrances regularly lately since L’Oreal and Kering bought them back in 2023. Since the acquisition TWENTY fragrances have been released. While most might say they are mostly just relaunches of older fragrances, it doesn’t matter – a release is a release.
Wild Vetiver has so many beautiful accompanying notes that make the vetiver more pleasant to the vast majority of people, so much so that you almost forget it’s a vetiver fragrance at its core.
Bergamot, Timur (airy fresh spices), and pink pepper are in the opening. Rose, blackcurrant, and geranium are in the mid while vetiver, cedarwood, and Amberwood round out the base. This fragrance screams a woody fresh bomb, and it definitely is. The blackcurrant almost lends itself as a minty fresh note that really compliments the woody base notes.
Performance and projection on this is moderate. I’d say that Creed is doing a better job in their performance area since most fragrances prior really suffered in this category. It’s usually a hard sell when you ask for almost $500 for a fragrance that needs a respray a few hours later. To smell that Wild Vetiver stays on my skin longer is a good sign. I wish it projected just a little bit more but overall; this fragrance is absolutely amazing.
2. Polo 67 EDP Extreme
Ok ok ok, let’s get the six seven jokes all out of our systems now so we can move on. If you’re reading this many years later and you have no clue what I’m talking about – look it up. Back to the review…
Call me crazy, but the play on words is getting a bit silly now. Is an EDP extreme a Parfum? Is it an Elixir? What concentration of oils to alcohols are we talking here? Whatever it may be, this fragrance from Ralph Lauren is the best Polo they’ve released yet. Fun fact: Ralph Lauren currently has FORTY Polo fragrances in existence. Polo Red takes up ¼ of this alone. Crazy to think that there are this many fragrances all stemming from one green fragrance that launched way back in 1978 and is STILL a banger fragrance today.
Polo 67 EDP Extreme to me smells almost too similar to Dunhill Icon Green. It’s a very safe mass appealing fragrance that isn’t overly loud or obnoxious and can be worn by any age group.
In the opening there is pineapple, bergamot, lemon, and caramel. In the mid there’s (wait what?)…pineapple, clary sage, solar notes, and geranium. In the dry down there’s cedarwood, leather, and vetiver. I swear that’s not a typo. Why there’s double the pineapple I’m not sure, but I can tell you that I don’t smell it at all, at least on my skin.
This fragrance is a good all-around-wear-anytime-day-night-club-work-etc type of fragrance. If you were to ask me about any Polo fragrance to buy, it would undoubtably be this one. Give this one a try and see if you smell pineapple. Comment below if you do, I’m curious.
3. Givenchy Gentleman Society Sport
Listen, I’ve ranted and raved about Gentleman fragrances on this blog over and over again. I think by this rate you should KNOW that if it’s a Gentleman fragrance from Givenchy, it’s most likely a uber-mega banger in my book. All of the Gentleman fragrances have shared that same DNA, whether it be from iris or other means, they have all smelled super close and held tight to the Gentleman name. Sport??? Are you kidding me?? Not even in the same zip code.
Four notes encompass this fragrance. Lemon, vetiver, narcissus (floral flowers with a hint of hay and tobacco), and cedarwood. That’s it. No cardamom, no iris, no lavender…no resemblance at all to the Gentleman name.
Before you decide to look away and not even think twice, let me change your mind. This fragrance is amazing in its own right. The opening is a HUGE lemon bomb with heavy vetiver. The best comparison I can give you is that it smells like a clean bar of soap. Very clean and super fresh smelling. It’s just a throw off because you see the name, you see the presentation and you immediately think about all of the Gentleman fragrances of the past and this one has no resemblance whatsoever.
What I CAN tell you is this one is probably the most hyped I’ve seen so far this spring. So much so that a full bottle is currently in my cart on Macy’s as I type and I’m debating just going all in on this one. Give it a try and see if you like it. Maybe layer with some Gentleman Society Extreme??
Final Thoughts
Ladies and Gentlemen, we’re only in March and new spring freshies will be flooding our feeds soon and I’m ready. While I really love my fall/winter fragrances I always yearn for the warmer days where I can spray 20 sprays of a citrus fragrance in the warm sunshine – and those days are rapidly approaching! Grab these three samples and try them for yourself. Let me know which is your favorite below. I’ll catch you all in the next one. Peace!
